Celebrating half a century of Academia at Ahalin

It is 50 years since the present Ahalin National School opened its doors and in the intervening half century it has imparted the rudiments of academia to the children in the area. To mark the 50th  anniversary of the opening of Scoil Mhuire , Ahalin National School in 1963 a reunion event was held in the Resource Centre, Knockaderry on Friday 27th September at 8 p.m. This proved to be a great social gathering with the opportunity to renew acquaintance with former classmates ,friends and neighbours.

On Saturday everybody was invited to Scoil Mhuire for a trip down memory lane, followed by the unveiling of a plaque at the site of the former Ahalin N.S. which was the main school of the parish 1867 to 1963.

Following this a heritage walk of Knockaderry Village proved most interesting. The day was rounded off with social events in An Halla Beag, and Hanley’s bar, and Adult Dancing at the Resource  Centre.

A Community Fun Day for all the Family will take place at a later stage.
